GEOTECHNICAL STABILITY EXHIBIT
There are no buildings or any structures outside the permit area which could be affected by the
excavation.
From Table 2.5 in the SME Mining Reference Handbook', the backfill is best classified as sand
and gravel, mixed grain size. This material has an internal angle of friction of approximately 48
degrees, a unit weight of 110 lbs/ft3, and no cohesion.
The nearest offsite structure not owned by the applicant is the county road along the east side
(CR 29). This road is over 50 feet from the mining slope. The fence along the property and
permit boundary is owned by both the landowner and by the county. Therefore, the mining pit
crest is not allowed closer than 50 feet to the permit boundary.
1. Slope Stability Scenarios Analyzed
Given the presence of the 100-YR floodplain, the proposed maximum mining slope (2H:IV) at
the extent of the mining areas was evaluated for dry conditions, flooded conditions, and rapid
drawdown conditions. GALENA software was used to find the failure slopes for these conditions
using Bishop's Method of Slices. Result figures are shown below for each set of conditions with
the GALENA data output included at the end of this exhibit.
l
ca
0047151m J- :5,
1-2 31//8
Original source:Houk and Bray 1977
Yevoli Cobblestone Pit Grrp lewuh ands+x alc.,i'LI
December 2018 GS-1
