Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
To: Rob Zuber
From: Janet Binns
CC: Jason Musick
Date: December 26, 2018
Re: Bowie No. 1, TR65

The Division has received a technical revision (TR65) for Bowie No. 1 Mine. The mine
is a reclaimed underground mine. No mining or mining activity is occurring on the
ground. Activities occurring on the site are limited to maintenance, weed management
and monitoring activities. The operator has previously been approved to reclaim two
ponds at the West Mine in East Roatcap creek. This reclamation has not yet commenced.
The approved water monitoring plan can be found in Permit Volume 4.
BRL is proposing to reduce surface water monitoring to one full suite per year. BRL is
proposing to reduce full suite water quality monitoring from twice per year to once per
year for site SW-1 on Stevens Gulch and site SW-6 on East Roatcap Creek.
TR65 proposes to reduce full suite groundwater sampling on wells, B-7, SM-1, SM-5,
SM-6, SM-7 SM-9, SM10 and SM-11 from two to one time per year.
Please review these proposed water-sampling reductions for compliance with Rule
4.05.13. Will the proposed reduction of monitoring still allow the Division to adequately
evaluate water quality trends over time?
The revision was deemed complete on December 26, 2018. A preliminary adequacy
letter will be sent to the operator by January 25, 2019. Please let me know of any
concerns or questions you have for the operator prior to that date. Thank you for your
assistance.
