Fiantinti mitt cintes
CONSULTING GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERS AND MATERIAL TESTING
28 November 2012
Western Fuels
12050 North Pecos
Westminster, Colorado 80234
Attention: Mr. Ross Gubka,PE
PN: M12058MT
Subject: New Detention Pond Embankment, North Plant Site
Theoretical Embankment Stability
Nucla, Colorado
Mr. Gubka:
This letter presents the results of our analysis for the.
subject Detention Pond. Our analysis included testing embankment
samples of the fill material for strength parameters and then
performing a theoretical stability analysis using" a typical
embankment cross section.
The strength parameters used in our analysis which were derived
from our direct shear strength tests are as follows:
- laboratory moisture content-dry density relationship
(Proctor) test, and
- direct shear strength tests of remolded material.
Our analysis included an assessment of the theoretical
stability of embankment slopes manufactured from the materials
tested. The constructed embankment configuration is generally as
follows:
- crest width, 10 feet,
- embankment height, 9.5 feet,
- embankment inclination: 3 horizontal to 1 vertical, up and
down stream slopes.
These dimensions imitate the embankment configuration used to
assess the theoretical calculated stability of the embankment
slopes. There are typically several conditions of an embankment
environment. These are:
P.O.Box 3986 P.O.Box 45
Grand Junction,Co.81502 Montrose,Co.81402
(970)245 6506 (970)249 2154
Appendix 2.05.3(4)-6 Page 2 December 2018(TR-19)
