commit to maintain a 3H:1 V ratio for distance from the permit boundary to depth of
excavation. If we find that the pit needs to be deeper for mineral extraction near the
permit boundary, then a technical revision will be made to the permit addressing slope
stability analyses to allow for excavations near the permit boundary. The exact locations
of the excavations will depend on the trend direction and depth of the pegmatite veins.
The excavations and stockpiles total volume will not exceed the total volume of cubic
yards shown on Exhibit D, 6.3.4(2). Sloping of excavated area will be in compliance with
U.S. Dept. of Labor, OSHA Section V: Construction Operations, Ch. 2, Excavations:
Hazard Recognition in Trenching and Shoring, with regard to sloping excavated areas
(https://www.osha.gov/dts/osta/otm/otm_v/otm_v_2.html). Specifically, including:
IV. Determination of soil type
V. Test equipment and Methods for evaluating soil type. (A pocket
penetrometer will be used to measure the compressive strength of the soil to
assist in the determination of safe sloping.
VIII. Sloping and Benching.
IX. Spoil
We also add that the existing surface slopes are not excessively steep, and the estimated
soil types are Stable Rock, Type A, and to a lesser extent Type B.
6.3.3 (1) (g)
No roads will be created for the mining operations. An existing 4WD road will be used
for mining access (FS road 754 & 754A). No new or improved roads will be made. All
equipment will be "walked-in" from these 4WD roads to the excavations, and"walked-
out" at the end of the season with as little disturbance as possible. All of the temporary
access routes will be reclaimed at the conclusion of the mining project.
6.3.3 (1) (h)
The operation will be a dry excavation. No water will be used during mining operations.
6.3.3 (1) (i)
No ground water or surface water will be disturbed during mining operations.
6.3.3 (1) (j)
N/A
6.3.3 (1) (k)
No toxic or acid forming materials should be encountered from this operation. If
encountered, the DRMS will be consulted.
6.3.3 (1) (1)
