be placed as close to the excavation as possible.Although the areas to be mined are
relatively flat, measures will be taken to prevent the material from moving downslope
(e.g., silt fences).
Regolith and substratum will be piled adjacent but separated from the topsoil. When the
excavation is reclaimed, the substratum and rock will be placed first into the excavation,
followed by the topsoil. The soil will be distributed evenly to a maximum depth allowed
by the amount of soil initially present. The site will be re-contoured to match the original
contour except where prudent to terrace the surface to prevent erosion and to hold the
soil. Silt fences or deadfall from the Hayman fire may also be used on steeper slopes and
will remain in place until vegetation is reestablished. See Exhibit E-map (Detail— 1) for
approximate stockpile locations.
6.3.3 (1) (d)
The thickness of the deposits to be mined will vary depending on the depth of the
pegmatite lode. The maximum depth will not exceed 30 feet from the original surface.
6.3.3 (1) (e)
Four dig sites are specified in this permit(see Exhibit A, location map, Detail-1) for
precise locations). However, dig sites 2 and 3 are in close proximity to one another and
may eventually join depending on the size and direction of the pegmatites. The main
roads and access route to the New Hawk mine is specified in the maps of Exhibits A& E.
No new roads will be created to access the mine. All vehicles and equipment(a small
back-hoe) will be "walked in" from the main access roads (Forest Service road 754 &
754A) to the mining sites using the temporary roads labeled"temporary access routes" in
Exhibit A Map - Detail 1. These temporary roads will be approximately 12 feet in width.
Only dead trees up to a width of 10 inches will be removed along the routes. The grade
on these routes is no more than a 5:1 ratio. As such, no significant grade changes or
culverts are anticipated. Only personal vehicles and excavation equipment will be used
along these routes. All routes will be graded to their original grade if changed and will be
reclaimed with a blend of native grass seed approved by the U.S. Forest service.
No on site processing facilities or structures will be constructed. All processing of the
mineral specimens will take place off-site. No underground ventilation is required as the
dig sties will be open pits.
6.3.3 (1) (fl
The total mining disturbance will not exceed 1.39 acres with a maximum of.60 acres
affected at any one time (excluding the temporary access routes), with no more than 2
pits open at the same time. The dig sites will be backfilled before moving on to a new
dig site. Safety fencing will be erected around open excavations that surpass 3 feet in
depth. The excavations will not exceed 20 feet in total depth, but most will be less than
20 feet so that we can maintain a 3H:1 V ratio from the permit boundary. As such, we
