X
Recely
Fp
TowN of Empm Q'visI k 7 4 Zola
,
30 East Park Avenue—P.O. Box 100 Empire CO 80438-0100 Rili fiRECLAN
3031569-2978—303/569-2282 fax S,gF,n01V
To: Department of Reclamation
From: Town of Empire
Re:Douglas Mountain Mine Project
December 11, 2018
To Whom it May Concern,
The Empire,Board of Trustees is concerned over the Douglas Montain Mine Project just
east of Empire. This corridor is the main route most residents use for access to schools,
shoping and work. The proposed project will create excess dust and exhaust fumes that
many of our residents will be exposed to on a daily basis The Easter Seals Handicamp
lies just northwest of the project and will experience even more of a negative impact-on
a group of people who need it the least.
Our other concern is water usage. While our diversion points are upstream from the
Douglas Mountain Mine Project, irresponsible water usage impacts us all. Downstream
issues become Empire's issues when there is not enough flow to satisfy downstream
decrees. We have not seen any evidence of measures to ensure there is adequate water
rights and quality water will be returned to the water table.
We, as a Town, hope you will take these concerns into consideration as you evaluate the
Douglas Mountain Mine Project and make your decisions.
Pie
