species includes ponds, beaver dams and springs in the area. The only species observed in
the LMA were chorus frogs in some of the small ponds. There are numerous bodies of
water that could support boreal toads and northern leopard frogs. Most of these ponds are
well away from where any activity associated with the mining operations would occur. In
those instances where activity could be close to the bodies of water proper measures
could be implemented that would preclude any impacts on the waters or the amphibians.
FISHERIES
There are impoundments in the area and the headwaters of some streams are very small
and not capable of supporting any fish. None of these waters are known to support any
populations of fish.
Summary
Lynx have not been found in the area and findings from the four years of surveys indicate
there is little chance of the animals wintering in the area. There would be no denning in
the area as findings from CPW studies show that lynx denning occurs at elevations well
above those found in the LMA.
At this point, the only species that is believed could affect exploration or other activities
associated with the mining operations (e.g. timing or location) would be a nesting
goshawk. Surveys will continue to occur prior and during operations associated with
mining.
Based on data collected to date and preliminary mapping showing potential exploration
sites and access roads leads to the finding that no other listed species or other wildlife
would be adversely affected using current construction, drilling and reclamation
practices.
20
