COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Interoffice Memorandum
December 10, 2018
From: Leigh Simmons
To: Rob Zuber
Subject: New Elk Mine (Permit No. C-1981-012)
TR -73
Review of adequacy response
New Elk Company responded to the Division's adequacy letter with a letter dated December 6, 2018. In
response to that letter I have the following comments:
1. As I said in my earlier review, NE -1-10 (which is completed in the Allen seam, approximately
1000' from existing mine workings, down the projected potentiometric gradient) should be
excluded from the reduced monitoring requirements; historic data from the well should be
included in the AHR together with data from the current monitoring period. I think it would be
appropriate, however, to monitor the well with the same frequency that NEW -2 and NEW -4 are
monitored.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
