PART
Permit No. CO -0029599
Page No. 8
B. MONITORING REQUIREMENTS •
2. Salinity Parameters
i
In order to obtain an indication of the quantity of Salinity, measured as total dissolved solids (TDS), being
discharged from the site the permittee shall monitor the wastteywatgerr effluent at the following frequencies:
it0' ntfall : lv• '`'":, 3Zc, "+'+wlilCIICy. ?G. trtK.:?+i lii5'8111ple'Tykr':cy7X'i
001,005 Quarterly Grab
Self-monitoring samples taken in compliance with the monitoring requirements specified above shall be taken at
those locations listed in Part I.B.1.
3. One -Time Analysis -Outfall 001
In order to determine the specific quality of water discharged from outfall 001, the permittee isrequired to perform
a one time analysis for the following parameters. The sample type for this analysis is grab. The monitoring and
analysis shall be performed at the fust instance of discharge after this permit becomes effective. Following analysis,
the data shall be submitted to the Division within forty five days of the sampling date.
Parameters (all in ma/Q): Potentially Dissolved Copper, Potentially Dissolved Lead, Total Mercury,
Potentially Dissolved Nickel, Potentially Dissolved Selenium, Potentially Dissolved Silver.
I
If evaluation of the data demonstrates a definite or probable violation of water quality standards, thelpermit may be
amended to incorporate additional monitoring and/or limitations, as allowed under Par II.B.5 of this permit.
Additional monitoring may also be required where the detection limit for a parameter is above the appropriate w#6
quality standards or the incorrect metal fraction was analyzed.
I
C. DEFINITIONS OF TERMS
I
1. "Composite" sample is a minimum of four grab samples collected at equally spaced two (2) hour intervals and
proportioned according to flow.
i
2. "Continuous" measurement, is a measurement obtained from an automatic recording device which continually
measures provides measurements.
3. "Chronic lethality" occurs when a statistically significant difference, at the 95% confidence level, occurs in the
chronic test between the mortality of the test species in 66% effluent (the chronic IWC = 66%) and the control.
4. "Daily Maximum limitation" means the limitation for this parameter shall be applied as an instantaneous maximum
(or, for pH or DO, instantaneous minimum) value. The instantaneous value is defined as the analytical result of any
individual sample. DMRs shall include the maximum (and/or minimum) of all instantaneous values, within the
calendar month. Any instantaneous value beyond the noted daily maximum limitation for the indicted parameter
shall be considered a violation of this permit.
5. "Grab" sample, is a single "dip and take" sample so as to be representative of the parameter being monitored.
I
6. "In-situ" measurement is defined as a single reading, observation or measurement taken in the fieldiat the point of
discharge.
i
7. "Instantaneous" measurement is a single reading, observation, or measurement performed on site using existing
monitoring facilities. 1
8. "Potentially dissolved (PD) metals fraction" is defined in the Basic Standards and Methodologies for Surface W-
1002-31, as that porion of a constituent measured from the filtrate of a water and suspended sediment sample th
was first treated with nitric acid to a pH of 2 or less and let stand for 8 to 96 hours prior to sample 'filtration using a
0.40 or 0.45 -UM (micron) membrane filter. Note the "potentially dissolved" method cannot be used where nitric
acid will interfere with the analytical procedure used for the constituent measured.
See Part I.C. for Definitions.
