2.05.4(2)(e)
(iii) Planting and Seeding
The temporary seed mix will be hydroseeded or broadcast seeded. The
permanent seed mixture will be drilled on level areas and on slopes which will
permit machine work along the contour. On slopes which prevent safe or
adequate machine work, the surface will be hydroseeded or broadcast
seeded. Broadcast seeding will also be used for small isolated areas. Dozer
tracking up and down steep slopes or other roughening techniques will be
used before seeding to establish a better seedbed. On predominantly south
and west facing steep slopes, the surface will be extensively roughened, for
temporary and permanent seed placement, to provide for increased moisture
retention and favorable micro sites for plant establishment. Seeding will be
done in the fall after October 15th.
(iv) Mulching Techniques
All seeded areas will be mulched with certified weed free grass hay or straw.
Approximately two tons of mulch will be used on each acre seeded.
On drilled sites the hay or straw will be crimped with a serrated disc or other
appropriate equipment. On steeper slopes and areas where crimping is not
feasible, straw or hay will be anchored down using a tackifier, or a tackifier
mixed with wood or wood/paper fiber. The tackifier will be applied in
accordance with manufacturer's specifications with consideration of the
type and quantity of mulch applied, slope, soils conditions and other
applicable factors. Steep slope vegetation should only occur where the
Reed Wash bridge footings are removed. The remainder of the site
disturbance is located on relatively flat surfaces.
(v) Irrigation and Weed Control
Use of the planting and mulching methods specified above will result in
satisfactory plant establishment, barring abnormally dry conditions. There are
no plans to irrigate the reclaimed areas.
Permit Application 2.05-34 04/11
