• Diversity
The baseline vegetation cover data was used to generate a diversity
index for each of the three areas sampled during the sampling episode.
The diversity index for each of the areas is presented in Table 1, 2,
3. The diversity values ranged from .6 (east facing slope) to .941
(north facing slope).
Tables 4-6 developed to show the number of species that comprise greater
than 70% of H for each of the areas. In order to determine the species
contributing to this percentage of H, it was assumed that any species
contributing less than 5% to H was not significant enough to be included
• in the table. For area A seven species comprised 86.8% of H, area B six
species comprised 72.3% of H, and area C eight species comprised 82.9%
of H.
A review of Tables 4-6 show that grasses and shrubs contribute the most
to the diversity index. The farbs contribute a much smaller percentage
to the diversity index, and in area B this group is absent. The total
contribution of forms to H in area A is 13.9%, while in area B, it is
10.2%, and in area C it is 25.2%. Table 6 summarizes the % contribution
of the various life forbs per area to H.
