11/7/2018 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: Foidel Creek Mine TR -92 panel extension
Morning, Tabetha.
Regarding TR -92, below are a couple questions we have: - As a clarification, the only surface
disturbance associated with TR92 would be any additional subsidence effects occurring at the
ground surface (generally not discernable at the surface, since it occurs uniformly over a fairly
broad area) associated with the proposed panel extension
1. Would you happen to have a shapefile for the proposed surface disturbance (i.e., the 35 acres)
for the 7 -East Longwall Panel you could send me?? — Don't have a separate shape -file, but have
attached a map (Map 23B from PR14/15 with TR92 extension drawn in) which I marked -up to
show the additional affected area (yellow highlight is additional affected area within the current
Permit Area, and pink highlight is additional area in the 40 -acre Permit Boundary Extension area).
Note that the additional affected area would be that area beyond the previous Wadge and Wolf
Creek mining and subsidence limits, and that subsidence on the panel ends is limited since the
angle of draw is conservatively extended through the start -room area where pillars are maintained
(no subsidence), but realistically there is typically no subsidence beyond the mining limits. I
measure the actual additional affected area at 23 acres, so we could go with 25 -acres, or stay with
the more conservative 35 -acres.
2. The total surface disturbance for the proposed 1,400 foot extension will be 35 acres, correct?? —
Bee previous response
3. Is the 7 -East longwall already in place?? — The longwall is currently in the 8 -East Panel, with a
little less than half of the Panel mined. Development of the 7 -East Panel is about 2/3 complete.
Development of the 7 -East Panel is currently scheduled to be completed in January 2019, with
longwall mining in 7 -East scheduled to begin in May 2019
4. The proposed surface disturbance will take place in a reclaimed area within the mine footprint,
correct?? — The additional affected area shown on the attached map is outside of the previous
mine "footprint", and falls mostly within an area that had been used (many years ago) for dryland
agricultural production, but in recent years (at least 30) is classified as undeveloped land used as
rangeland and wildlife habitat. A very small portion of the additional affected area (generally the
pink highlighted area which is outside the current PermitBoundary) falls within a previously
undisturbed area of mixed grass and oak -brush.
5. When would construction of the extension begin and end?? — As part of the 7 -East Panel,
development mining in the extension area would occur in a December13/January 19 timeframe,
with longwall mining in this area currently scheduled to begin in May 2019, as previously noted. As
currently scheduled, the 7 -East Longwall Panel would be completed in about November 2019.
Thanks, Tabetha.
https://mail.google.com/mail/b/AK4ApiZciBMigoWzTVjFzGnGjzgOpWC7KifR4uQ50XTMOufngOgy/u/0/?ui=2&ik=deb7fOcd2O&jsver=abMmoXjbiOA.en.... 2/4
