(2) Creation of wildlife habitat and management:
The reclamation plan anticipates returning the site to rangeland. Returning the site to rangeland
will continue to make the site available for wildlife use, as it has in the past. Wildlife is
opportunistic and will use what is available for food and cover.
In addition, a wildlife statement will be sent to the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife for
comment.
3.1.9 Topsoil salvage,storage and replacement:
(1) Protection of topsoil:
Topsoil necessary for site reclamation will be removed and placed in stockpiles prior to mining
and removal of any overburden. Topsoil stockpiles will be out of drainageways, and away from
active mining areas. Where topsoil stockpiles will not be disturbed for at least one year, the
topsoil stockpile will be seeded with the approved seed mix.
(2) Wood vegetation shall be removed:
The site is a grassland community with little or no woody vegetation.
(3) Storage, location, configuration of topsoil stockpiles for control of erosion and
protection from mining operations:
Control of topsoil stockpiles from erosion and protection from mining operations are addressed in
Section 3.1.9(1). The Pre-mine/Mine Plan Map shows the location of topsoil stockpiles, away
from drainageways and separated to the extent possible from mining operations.
We estimate by removing 18 inches of topsoil from unit TkC, we will salvage approximately
40,995 cyds. of topsoil. (Assumes 16.95 acres are available for topsoil stripping.) Soil Unit Psb
has approximately 12,584 cyds. of topsoil, if we are able to salvage 18 inch of topsoil. (Assumes
5.2 acres are available for topsoil stripping)Soils unit Yt, in Phases 1 and 2 has approximately
11,668 cyds. of topsoil available, if we are able to strip 6 inches off the available 18.18 acres.
The calculated amount should be adequate to replace at least 8-10 inches of topsoil. (Please see
the attached map which approximates the areas available acres for topsoil stripping and the
associated soil units,ATTACHMENT VL
Topsoil piles will always be placed adjacent to active mining operations, allowing for easy access
for reclaiming a phase which has been mined and ready for reclamation
(4) Relocation of topsoil stockpiles:
Topsoil stockpiles are located so they should not have to be relocated during mining operations.
33
