Pond P-2 was a sediment pond for the water tank area. It was backfilled and reclaimed late in 1994. Pond P-3 was the sediment pond for the No. 3 Mine. The embankment on this pond was breached in 1994. Pond P-4 is the depression to dissipate energy in front of the culvert located north of the entrance to the No. 1 Mine. No reclamation is required for this pond since it is not actually a pond because it was revised when the mine was reclaimed in 1987. Ponds P-5, P-6, P-7 and P-8 were energy dissipater ponds. They were all reclaimed in 1994. Water can diverted to Pond 9 through the open channel located between treatment pond T-2 and Pond 9. The long pond and ponds T-1, T-2 , and P-9 are shown on drawing D-2-5. Ponds P-5, P-6, P-7 and P-8 are shown on drawing D-4-8. Ponds P-1 and P-2 are shown on drawing D-4-7. The Refuse Pond is shown on drawing D-4-16. The refuse pond was left in place as a stock pond to enhance the postmining land use of wildlife habitat. Ponds attract many kinds of wildlife. Migratory waterfowl often use ponds as resting places in their flights to and from the north. This reclaimed mine site has become a refuge for deer and elk. It is isolated and provides good forage. Keeping the pond in place will enhance the use of the site by deer, elk and waterfowl. Permit Renewal 4 -iii (Rev. 03/13)
