such as Area 5 and on the road to the ventilation fan. The third mix will be used at the refuse disposal
site, the mine area, and the less harsh road cuts. A topsoil in the fall and trees in the spring for the
next 1 or 2 years.
The seed mixtures contain some exotic species, but it is' intended that the enduring plant stands will
be predominately native. Each seed mixture has been calculated on a seeds -per -square -foot basis,
in accordance with modern revegetation practice.
Reclaimed stands will be managed at least until permanent establishment is assured and bond release
occurs. Reseeding and other maintenance measures will be conducted as required.
Reclamation Success Criteria: Natural Communities
The following table lists the four natural vegetation communities disturbed on the mine site and
loudout area that will be_compared as a unit to the -extended reference area. Drawing No. D-3-16
is vegetation map of the mine site which shows the location of three of these areas in more detail.
Map D-3-17, the Loadout Vegetation map, shows the location of the fourth.
NATURAL COMMUNITIES LOCATION ACRE.
Riparian Woodland No. 1 Mine Portal 0.6
Mountain Shrubland Dry Phase No. 1 and No. 3 Mine Sties 41.7
• Mountain Shrubland Moist Phase No. 1 Mine New Fan Site 1.3
Pinyon-Juniper/Rubber Rabbitbrush Mine Loadout 0.5
The Riparian Woodland, Mountain Shrubland Moist Phase, Pinyon -Juniper woodland, and Rubber
Rabbitbrush shrubland vegetation communities are minor communities for which no separate
vegetation success criteria is required.
One other area at the loadout exists which has separate criteria from the four natural communities.
The Haylands (pastured) community, which is estimated to be 1.5 acres in area, is addressed on page
4-90 of the permit document.
For cover and for productivity of the natural vegetation communities, the reference area approach
will be used to determine reclamation success. If upon comparison, using statistical methods identified
below, the reclaimed area is comparable to the reference area the reclaimed area will be considered
successfully reclaimed.
