To calculate the soil erosion from the refuse pile, the Soil Con-
servation Service's (SCS) Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) Was
used. The equation is described in "Preliminary Guidance for Es-
timating Erosion on Areas Disturbed by Surface Mining Activities
in the Interior Western United States." This publication has
been used to determinate the estimated soil loss.
