The City of Lamar Well is a monitoring well and as such will not be adversely affected should
groundwater levels fluctuate as a result of the mining activities. See the attached well permit.
The GP Resources well has a decreed use allowing GP Aggregates use of the well for the West
Farm Pit operations. See Condition of Approval No. 5 of the attached well permit. If the
proposed use of groundwater at the West Farm Pit site results in material injury to surrounding
wells, Prowers Aggregate Operators, LLC. will ensure that all necessary measures are taken to
address the issues.
Water Quality
An NPDES permit has been obtained from the Water Quality Control Division at the Colorado
Department of Public Health & Environment for the West Farm Pit for discharging groundwater
that is dewatered from the site. This permit will be kept current and amended as necessary to
ensure that any water discharged from the site will meet the current water quality standards.
The permit number is COG 501574.
Impacts to Groundwater/Hydrologic Balance
Prowers Aggregate Operators, LLC. will monitor the groundwater levels surrounding the site
and provide groundwater recharge if necessary via perimeter ditches/ponds. Prowers Aggregate
Operators, LLC. will construct these ditches/ponds in the locations where direct discharge to an
existing adjacent irrigation lateral or creek is not available to ensure that stabilized groundwater
levels are maintained. They will discharge dewatering flows into existing adjacent irrigation
laterals or ditches where possible to limit the disturbance to the surrounding land.
To summarize the mitigation process, as each phase of mining/dewatering occurs a slurry wall
will be constructed around it to limit offsite groundwater impacts from dewatering the pit.
Prowers Aggregate Operators, LLC. will monitor the groundwater levels adjacent to mine as
each phase progresses. If groundwater levels drop to a level that prevents an adjacent well from
performing acceptably, according to that well's owner, Prowers Aggregate Operators will either
implement a groundwater recharge ditch/pond near the well in order to raise the groundwater
level in the vicinity of the well and hence return it's operation to acceptable standards, or will
negotiate an agreement with that well owner to replace the well or provide replacement water
via other means until the mining and reclamation activities are concluded.
All wells within 600 feet of the mining limits are either allowed to be used by GP Aggregates,
LLC, or are monitoring wells, therefore groundwater impacts to these wells do not need to be
addressed.
See the attached Monitoring Well Location Map which shows the locations of monitoring wells
around the perimeter of the site that GP Aggregates, LLC. has installed in order to monitor
groundwater levels.
Prowers Aggregate Operators,LLC.
J&T Consulting,Inc.
