Appendix C
Page 64 of 67
Permit No.:COG500000
38. "Qualified Personnel" for stormwater provisions-those who possess the knowledge and skills to assess conditions and
activities that could impact stormwater quality at a facility,and who can also evaluate the effectiveness of control measures.
39. "Quarterly measurement frequency" means samples may be collected at any time during the calendar quarter if a continual
discharge occurs. If the discharge is intermittent,then samples shall be collected during the period that discharge occurs.
40. "Recorder" requires the continuous operation of an automatic data retention device for providing required records such as a
data logger,a chart and/or totalizer(or drinking water rotor meters or pump hour meters where previously approved.)
41. SAR and Adjusted SAR-The equation for calculation of SAR-adj is:
SAR-adj= Na+
Ca., + Mg++
2
Where:
Na'=Sodium in the effluent reported in meq/1
Mg"= Magnesium in the effluent reported in meq/1
Ca.=calcium(in meq/1)in the effluent modified due to the ratio of bicarbonate to calcium
The values for sodium(Na+),calcium(Ca++),bicarbonate(HCO3-)and magnesium(Mg++)in this equation are expressed in units
of milliequivalents per liter(meq/1). Generally,data for these parameters are reported in terms of mg/I,which must then be
converted to calculate the SAR. The conversions are:
meq/1= Concentration in mg/1
Equivalent weight in mg/meq
Where the equivalent weights are determined based on the atomic weight of the element divided by the ion's charge:
Na'=23.0 mg/meq(atomic weight of 23,charge of 1)
Ca"=20.0 mg/meq(atomic weight of 40.078,charge of 2)
Mg`= 12.15 mg/meq(atomic weight of 24.3,charge of 2)
HCO3-=61 mg/mep(atomic weight of 61,charge of 1)
The EC and the HCO3-/Ca"ratio in the effluent(calculated by dividing the HCO3-in meq/1 by the Ca"in meq/1)are used to
determine the Ca.using the following table.
Table-Modified Calcium Determination for Adjusted Sodium Adsorption Ratio
HCO3/Ca Ratio And EC 1,2,3
Salinity of Effluent(EC)(dS/m)
0.1 0.2 0.3 0.5 0.7 1.0 1.5 2.0 3.0 i 4.0 } 6.0 8.0
05 13.20 13.61 13.921 14.401 14.79 15.26 15.91 16.43 17.28 17.971 19.07 19.94
10 8.31( 8.57 Y 8.77 9.07 9.31 9.62 10.02 10.35 10.89 11.32 12.01E 12.56
.151 6.34 6.541 6.691 6.921 7.11 l 7.341 7.65 7.901 8.311 8.64{ 9.17 9.58
20[ 5.24 _5.40 5.52 5.71 587 6.06 6.31J v 6.52 6.86 f 7.13 7.571 7.91
Ratio of 25( 4.51 4.651 4.76 4.92 5.06 5.22 5.44 5.62 5.91 6.15 6.52 6.82
HCO3/Ca .30 4.00 4.12 4.21 4.36 I 4.48 4.62 4.82 4.98 5.241 5.441 5.77; 6.04
35 3.611 3.72 3.801 3.941 4.04 4.17 4.35 4.49 4.721 4.911 5.21 5.45
.401 -3.301  3.40 3.48 3.60 --3.70[ 3.82 _ ^3.98 4.11 4.32 4.491 4.771 4.98
.45[ 3.05 3.14 3.22 3.33 3.42 3.53 3.68 3.80 4.00 4.15 4.41 4.61
