For disturbed areas, re-vegetating with appropriate seed mixes to minimize erosion and
re-establish natural terrain will occur. The seed mixture below was selected to be long
lasting and regenerating, as recommended by the Prowers County Conservation District.
The ground will be fine graded prior to seeding and mulch will be applied according to
recommendations from the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Reservoir side
slopes below the anticipated reservoir water level will not be seeded. The proposed seed
mix is shown in the following table.
Seed Mix Application Rate
Alkali Sacaton (Saltalk) 1.5 PLS/ac
Switchgrass (Blackwell or Pathfinder) 4.0 PLS/ac
Blue Grama (Hachita or Lovington) 3.0 PLS/ac
Western Wheatgrass (Arriloa, Barton, Rosana) 16.0 PLS/ac
Sideoats Grama (Vaughn, El Reno Niner) 9.0 PLS/ac
Buffalograss (Texoka, KNO3 treated, or native 6.0 grain or 16.0 bur
within 150 miles of site)
'Application rate is for hydroseeding or drilling the seed. If seed is to be
broadcast, the application rate will be doubled.
The seed mix will be applied via hydroseeding or planted with a drill equipped with depth
bands and fluffy seed agitator. The seed will be applied or drilled between November 15
and April 30 for best results. The seeded areas will then be covered dead crop litter from
sorghum or milo crop forage, or with straw mulch at a rate of 1,200 to 2,000 pounds per
acre.
