Martin Julie Mikulas
Marietta Regional Land Manager
October 8, 2018
Mr. Peter Hays
Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Technical Revision to M-2000-016 for Conveyor Bridge
Dear Mr. Hays:
Martin Marietta is needing to extend a conveyor bridge across Highway 85 to connect the processing area
on our M-2004-078 to the processing area on City and County of Denver's M-2000-016. I have briefly
discussed this with you and based on the phone messages, it is my understanding that this can be done
with a technical revision to both permits.
The conveyor bridge is being designed by Martin Marietta in coordination with Colorado Department of
Transportation (CDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Attached are the 30% plans
approved by CDOT. We will be completing a 60%set shortly and then it will go to FHWA for 90%and final
approval. There is a small temporary support tower that CDOT is requiring to be installed during
construction that will fall outside of M-2000-016 and in CDOT Right of Way. This is only temporary for
installation of the conveyor and will be removed immediately after the bridge is welded into place. CDOT
will not allow any permanent structures to remain in their Right of Way. Construction will all be
coordinated with CDOT/FHWA and Martin Marietta will have to bond for the project with CDOT and
maintain a financial warranty through the life of its use. For this reason, it is Martin Marietta's
understanding that this change can be done as a technical revision. The only portion of the project falling
in our permit boundary is a caisson and pillar/stair structure, which may remain on the property until
mining is completed for this permit. CDOT will then require the caisson, pillar and conveyor bridge to be
removed. Martin Marietta is working with City of Fort Lupton and Weld County to make sure we stay
current with the Special Use permits on each permit.
Also included is a revised mining
plan, showing the general location of the caisson and pillar, as well as an
aerial photo to show a more general depiction of the conveyor across the two permits. Please give me a
call (970-407-3631), if additional information is needed.
Sincerely,
,(,(&4.!/G dd4&
Julie Mikulas
Regional Land Manager
Rocky Mountain Division—Northern Office
1800 N Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins,CO 80534
julie.mikulas@martinmarietta.com
www.martinmarietta.com
