1
1w, LYTLE WATER SOLUTIONS, LLC
September 25,2018
Battle Mountain Resources, Inc.
P.O. Box 310
San Luis,Colorado 81152-0310
Attn: Mr. Julio Madrid
Environmental Coordinator
Subject: Site 1 Lysimeter Replacement Report, Battle Mountain Resources,Inc.,
San Luis, Colorado.
Project No. 1006-04
Dear Julio:
Battle Mountain Resources Inc. (BMRI)requested that Lytle Water Solutions,LLC(LWS)replace
existing porous cup lysimeters in the vicinity of the collection pond. These porous cup lysimeters
are used to evaluate if there is sufficient water in the unsaturated soil zones for water samples to be
collected for the purpose of water quality analysis. Water quality samples are collected from the
porous cup lysimeters to evaluate if there is leakage from either the tailings management facility
(TMF) or collection pond. The placement of the porous cup lysimeters around the collection pond
was originally required under the decree in 89CW32, and the lysimeters were installed consistent
with the requirements of that decree. In 2018, it was determined that two of the recently replaced
lysimeters were not working properly at site 1 and would have to be replaced. This failure has been
attributed to poor quality lysimeters from the manufacturer. LWS has since switched lysimeter
suppliers and found that the new equipment is far more reliable. This installation report is for the two
replacement lysimeters.
There are three sets of lysimeters located directly downgradient of the lined TMF, adjacent to the
collection pond, as shown in Figure 1. According to the site 1 lysimeter installation report dated
October 22,2014, the deep lysimeter that was replaced was set at 50 feet(ft), at the bottom of the
colluvial materials in contact with the Santa Fe Formation at lysimeter site 1, and the shallow
lysimeter was set at a clay lense at 25 feet found at lysimeter sites 1 and 2. The replacement
lysimeters are located approximately 15-20 ft north of the corresponding original lysimeters at site
1.
640 PLAZA DRIVE, SUITE 170 PHONE: 303-350-4090
HIGHLANos RANCH, CO SO129 FAx: 303-350-4095
WWW.LYTLEWATER.COM E-MAIL: LWB@LYTLEWATER.COM
