In order of increasing depths, they are as follows:
1
(1) Silty Topsoil: The site is overlain by one (1) foot of
- silty topsoil. The upper six (6) inches of the topsoil
i have been penetrated by plant roots and organic matter.
(2) Silty and/or Sandy Clay: Underlying the topsoil in
Borings 3 and 4 and 6 through 9 and extending to
depths of two and one-half (21-) to four (4) feet below
the surface is a stratum of clay. The clays are damp
to wet and contain varying amounts of silt and/or sand. .
(3) Sand, Gravel, Cobbles and Boulders: This stratum
underlies the clays at depths of two and one-half (21)
to four (4) feet below the surface and extends to depths
of thirteen and one-half (13s) to twenty-four and one-
half (141) feet below the surface. The sands and
gravels are well-graded and clean below the water
•r
1 table. It is estimated that the cobbles and boulders
vjithin this stratum range in size up to eighteen (18)
inches in diameter.
(4) Claystone (Bedrock): Claystone bedrock was encountered
below the gravel stratum at depths of thirteen and one-half
(131) to twenty-four and one-half (241) feet belaw the surface.
f The upper one (1) foot of the claystone is weathered; how-
1
j ever, th_ rock Wow this weathered zone is firrz.
i
