Mr. Joe Lamanna
October 10, 2018
Page 2
3. Quality Control Testing
Moisture density tests were conducted throughout the height of the fill slope. The tests were all
within the specified values for moisture and density. Tabularized test data and laboratory
Standard Proctor test results are attached for reference.
AS-CONSTRUCTED DRAWINGS
As-constructed drawings of the fill along the downstream side of the Stage 6 berm are attached
to this letter. These drawings provide a plan view with the finished topographic contours, along
with select cross-sections of the berm. The as-constructed drawings were developed using
survey data provided by Claystone Construction. Claystone's survey included the existing
ground surface at the start of construction, and the final constructed surface of the fill area.
CONCULUSIN AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Field observations, quality control testing, and as-built survey data indicate that the fill placed to
flatten the southern slope of the berm was constructed in general conformance with the plans and
specifications. The berm is proposed to remain in place for approximately one year. During this
anticipated life span of the berm, periodic examinations of the berm should be conducted. In
particular, the berm should be examined for signs of sloughing, crack formations, settlement, or
other deformation of the slope. Erosion at the ends of the fill due to groundwater entering the pit
where the fill slope meets the existing mine highwall should also be monitored.
We appreciate the opportunity to work with Ready Mixed Concrete Company on this project.
Please call if you have any questions or comments.
Sincerely,
DEERE & AULT CONSULTANTS, INC.
Colby J.
