Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
To:
Rob Zuber
From:
Janet Binns
CC:
Jason Musick
Date:
October 11, 2018
Re:
Bowie No. 1, TR64
The Division has received a technical revision (TR64) for Bowie No. 1 Mine. Bowie
Resources propose to remove a 650 foot long culvert that had been used to divert East
Roatcap creek under the West Mine facilities area, and sediment ponds W-1 and W-2.
Bowie Resources has previously been approved for Phase II bond release and have
successfully made a sedimentology demonstration that the ponds are no longer needed for
all reclaimed area reporting to the ponds.
Bowie Resources has submitted Map 8A-19 (Engineer stamped 9/24/18) as well as a U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers permit. I am requesting your assistance in reviewing this
application for compliance with Rule 4.05.4(3), and re-establishing a perennial stream.
One item that I have a question about, 1) the operator's cover letter states that the East
Roatcap Creek culvert will be removed and rip rap will be placed in the channel to
control erosion. However, I was unable to locate sizing and description of the proposed
rip rap, or a longitudinal -section of the re-established channel.
Maps 8A-16 "Drainage Areas Reclaimed West Mine", Reclamation Map sheet 9 of 10
(8/17/1986), And previously approved Map 8A-19 are in the Revision folder if those help
your review. The adequacy due date is 11/2/2018, so your comments prior to that date
will allow me to meet the regulatory timeframe.
Thank you for your assistance.
