EXHIBIT G WATER INFORMATION
1. General
The site is located on a minor moraine and dominant alluvial outwash gravel terrace
immediately west of Mt. Elbert in the Sawatch Mountain Range. The Arkansas River flows
north to south along the eastern edge of Highway 24 approximately 0.7 miles east of the Box
Placer permit area. Box Creek and Herrington Creek enter the site along the northwestern
extent. Corske Creek flows into the site from the southwestern corner and travels east through
the southern extent of the site. Multiple unnamed ephemeral ditches crisscross the site in each
cardinal direction. Wetland species are found surrounding some of these unnamed ditches and
creeks, see Map C-1 for wetland locations. Although the outwash gravel terrace is primarily dry,
there are a number of existing ponds that are present as a result of pre-law dredge mining. These
pre-law ponds are shown on Map C-1.
As discussed in Exhibit C—Mine Plan and Exhibit E—Reclamation, pre-law ponds and
topographic lows will be first utilized as sediment settling ponds where sluice operations will
pump and recirculate water. Water for the entire operation will be pulled from the underlying
alluvial aquifer as mining begins and is maintained. Groundwater will be allowed to infiltrate
the first mining phase pits and will be pumped into the closest adjacent pre-law topographic low
such as trenches, wet ponds, and/or old but dry ponds. Groundwater will be pumped and
recirculated through the sluice. Resultant waste fines, reject cobbles, and water will exit the
sluice to reenter the current sediment settling pond for each mining area.
Water rights will be leased from either the City of Aurora or the City of Pueblo. A Substitute
Water Supply Plan (SWSP) is in preparation to lease from the above mentioned potential
sources and account for alluvial groundwater recycled in gold extraction processing.
The 100 year floodplain of the Arkansas River is well outside the permit area. Since the mining
operations and all associated activity will operate out of the Arkansas River floodplain area and
will not discharge into it, it is not expected that the activity presented in this application will
increase any sediment, trace elements, dissolved solids or other water quality parameter in any
way for the Arkansas River or its contributing tributaries. Most runoff on the active site will
either be captured by berms, stormwater ponds, or will infiltrate into the porous gravel filled
Box Creek Placer Mine Greg lx icki and Ammiatm PLL(
September 2018 G-1
