calculations for the storm water/sediment settling ponds is presented in Exhibit G - Water
Information.
Several hazardous materials will be stored and used on-site throughout the project. These
materials are only products that are associated with diesel motors, and products associated with
asphalt and concrete production.
4. Topsoil and Overburden Handling
The permitted site encompasses 950.0 acres; however, —240 acres are disturbed acres, the result
of historic placer mining. This renewed placer operation may re-disturb some of the historic
placer workings to utilize them as settling ponds for tailings. The—240 pre-disturbed acres have
no reclamation and no overburden or topsoil was recovered during mining. Approximately 170
acres of new disturbance will occur if all planned mine cuts are disturbed. It should be noted that
the permit area is represented by the permit boundary shown in magenta on Map C-2.
As mining and reclamation will occur concurrently, a total of 30 acres will be disturbed by
mining at any given time. One area will be actively mined, a second area in advance of the active
mining area will be stripped of topsoil and overburden in preparation for mining, and a third area
behind the active mining areas will in reclamation where recently stripped topsoil and
overburden will be applied as reclamation. Reclamation will be considered complete once
vegetation is established. Therefore, the total area of active mining and reclamation at any one
time will not exceed 30 acres with no more than 3 areas composed each of 10 acres. Exact
acreage of mining exclusive disturbance is dependent on the rate of mining and concurrent
reclamation.
The processing area will initially start on the northern edge of the property as shown on Map C-
2. Approximately 10 acres of area will be stripped of topsoil and overburden. The existing pond
structures will be used to capture tailings from the initial placer mining. Once these areas are
filled, overburden and topsoil will be replaced.
Anticipated topsoil to be removed from undisturbed future mining areas amounts to 45,711 CY.
Topsoil will not be stockpiled on site as it will be directly placed in the previous mining area in
reclamation. The first stripping of topsoil will be placed on a previously leveled historic mining
Box Creek Placer Mine Greg 1. wki and As caatcs PLIA
September 2018 D-10
