Peters 313 Pit Pre-Mining Engineering Evaluation
The Peters 313 pit area currently has slopes ranging as steep as 5:1 and the area is stable. Weld
County plans to mine the pit so all slopes are mined to a 3:1 slope or less. All slopes will be
reclaimed to a 3:1 slope or less. No high wall mining will occur. The minimum offset from any
structure will be 25 feet. In most areas, the distance from the structure to the edge of the pit
will be much greater than 25 feet.
To ensure that no vehicles or equipment travel onto the OneOk Bakken pipeline that runs
north-south along the far west edge of the permit area, Weld County will construct the access
road entirely outside of the 50-foot pipeline easement (25 feet on each side of the pipe), on the
East side. Additionally, Weld County will install a small berm along the western edge of the
access road to prevent vehicles from wandering into the OneOk Bakken easement.
There are four pipelines operated by Tallgrass and Kinder Morgan which will be crossed by the
access road. The access road will be raised to add cover over all of these pipes. No mining will
occur within 200 feet of the pipelines.
Weld County has included evidence of attempts to contact the owners of structures which are
located within 200 feet of the permit area in the original permit application. Certified mail
receipts for those structures owners which have not returned the agreement were also
included with the original application. Weld County also commits to compensating all
structures owners if damage occurs to their structures as a result of our mining activity.
