September 19, 2018 C-1982-056/Foidel Creek Mine TNL

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1

The slurry excavation area near the wash plant was not holding water at the time of inspection and was not
receiving any thickener underflow. Multiple train cars which derailed as noted in last complete were still present
on the mine site.
Previous inspections noted discharge from Area No.1 pond (pit pond) to Pond D. The culvert that flows between
the pit and pond D is next to the culvert from the waste pile drain. The operator stated that some previous
inspection showed flow from the pit pond that was likely incorrect and the flow was coming from the waste pile
drain, as the pit pond rarely flows to Pond D. Water from the pit pond goes to the wash plant or is recycled
underground.

GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE:
New Items from June inspection:
Culvert F-4(A); the end of this culvert has been repaired but it needs to be cleared (pic below)
9E TS piles need maintenance from cows and the sign is down
Outstanding Maintenance items from previous inspections:
Pond E delta at inlet needs to be cleaned out
Culvert B2 at wash plant will need additional maintenance. Inlet needs to be cleared.
Vegetation is spare at the 9E Utility Borehole and will need to be (re)seeded.
Fish Creek Tipple pond: Cattails to be cleared from discharge weep holes and grasses cleared from above
weir.
Culvert going under the road at the NE corner of the treatment ponds is completely clogged
Pond B: erosional feature on inlet side of first cell needs to be stabilized, cattail cleared from weir, and
garbage cleared out of 2nd cell.
Mine ID signs are needed at new borehole pads.
Ditch E-1(A) and (B) need to be cleared of wood and other stacked/stored mine materials that have fallen
into the ditch, and the ditch needs to be reestablished in some areas.
Topsoil pile being moved to accommodate the waste pile expansion has been in the process of being
moved for over a year without being shaped or seeded. This pile needs to be better protected and either
moved to the new location and shaped and seeded or shaped and seeded in place.
Completed items:
Two topsoil signs down along the 6MN road
9E Utility Borehole pad needs to be cleaned up. Erosional feature (pic below) needs to be stabilized, bag
product needs be cleaned up. Operator stated that cows got onto the pad and into the bag product. Trash
needs to be picked up from pad area.
Ditch F-1 needs to be cleared out of pipe and other stacked/stored mine materials that have fallen into the
ditch.
