The proposed thickener
tank and ancillary equipment will be located on the west side of the existing wash plant facility
and will accommodate additional thickener material that is produced during the coal washing
process. The proposed facility will be located in an area that has been previously disturbed and
will occupy an area within the approved disturbance footprint for the mine.
CPW has worked collaboratively with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and
Enforcement (OSMRE) and Foidel Creek Mine to develop site-specific mitigation that will help
reduce, minimize or avoid impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat associated with this project.
These mitigation practices have been documented via other correspondence documents with
OSMRE, and CPW believes that the proposed activities fall within the scope of anticipated
impacts that were considered in these documents. CPW does not have any additional wildlife
related site-specific recommendations for the proposed wash plant thickener tank facility.
CPW appreciates the opportunity to provide comments for Technical Revision No. 91. For
additional information, please contact Brett Smithers, Land Use Specialist at 970-878-6069.
Sincerely,
Kris Middledorf, Area Wildlife Manager
Cc: Kyle Bond, District Wildlife Manager, Steamboat South District
Jeff Yost, Terrestrial Biologist
Brett Smithers, Land Use Specialist, Northwest Regional Office
OF c10
Bob D.
