5.4 West Quarry Global Stability Analysis
Results for the West Quarry stability analyses are summarized in Table 11 below. Result
figures are shown in Appendix C. In general, safety factors calculated by SLOPE/W were
between 5.30 and 6.60 for all sets of strength properties. These factors of safety are well
above the required 1.20.
Table 11.West Quarry Global Stability Analysis Factor of Safet
Case Strength Properties Factor of Safety
c'(psf) 0' (deg)
1-1 0 48 5.37
1-2 576 29 4.81
2-1 0 48 6.60
2-2 576 29 5.58
5.5 Mafic Dike Sensitivity Analysis
As described in Section 4.2.3, a sensitivity analysis was done to evaluate the smallest
distance, x, between the edge of the excavated slope and the top of the mafic dike. Values of
200 ft, 100 ft, 50 ft, and 25 ft were considered for distance x in the analyses for both Mafic
Dikes 2 and 4. Results are summarized in Table 12 below and result figures are shown in
Appendix C.
Table 12. This is likely due to the relatively small thickness of the mafic dikes (5 ft)
compared to the entire highwall. Although the weaker mafic dike would provide a plane
along which instability could develop, its effects are not apparent when considering the
stability of the full height of the highwall.
Aggregate Industries Morrison Quarry GEI Consultants, Inc.
AM-06 Geotechnical Stability Exhibit 37 August 2018
