Topsoil replacement will be done when ground conditions are appropriate and soon
after regrading is complete. The subgrade will be loosened by using either a disc or
plow, dependent upon the amount of compaction. Once topsoil is replaced, it will
be prepared for seeding using typical seedbed preparation techniques. (Seepage
43b) Fertilizer will be applied at the rate 20 pounds per acre of nitrogen (N) and
20 pounds per acre of phosphorus (P).
(iii) State the grass, forb and tree species to be planted and the application
quantities. Specify the quantity of each grass and forb species as pounds of
pure live seed per acre:
No trees or shrubs are to be planted.
SPECIES VARIETY RATE
LS lb/ac
Sand bluestem Woodward 2.5
Switch ass Nebraska 28 2.5
Prairie sandreed Pronghorn 2.0
Alkali sacaton - 2.0
Big bluestem Kaw 2.5
Canada wildrye Manadan 2.5
Western wheatgrass 3.0
Purple prairie clover - 0.005
Total: 14.505
*Double drilled seeding rate to obtain broadcast seeding rate.
(iv) Specify the application methods for grass and forb seeding, drill seeding
or broad cast:
• Drill seed using a drill with separate seed bins for small seed and the drill
should have an agitator and depth bands.
• This is an example seed mix.
