These are legally <br /> enforceable standards that apply to public drinking water systems. Primary standards protect public health by limiting the levels of contaminants in <br /> drinking water. <br /> (2)SDWA NSDWR SMCL=Safe Drinking Water Act National Secondary Drinking water Regulations Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level. These <br /> are non-enforceable guidelines regulating contaminants that may cause cosmetic effects(such as skin or tooth discoloration)or aesthetic effects(such <br /> as taste,odor,or color)in drinking water.
