Spring 2018 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas
This traverse is located above the E -South Mains and the western ends of mined E -seam Longwall
Panels E3, E4, and E5, as well as unmined E -seam Longwall Panels E6 and E7. Previous
observations of subsidence cracks on the MVB E5-20 pad were described beginning in the Fall
2015 Subsidence Report with follow-up observation discussed in both 2016 reports. Each year
since their first observation in 2015, the subsidence cracks on and near the pad are healing and
becoming more difficult to identify.
Where the Deer Creek Road crossed through the USFS gate a short distance southwest of the two
stock watering troughs, several small earthen ridges and valleys were observed during the spring
2017 field visit both on and adjacent to the road. The area has been regraded, as discussed in the
Fall 2017 Subsidence Report, and nearly all evidence of the subsidence -related features is no
longer visible.
No other subsidence -related features were observed along this traverse during the spring 2018 field
visit.
4.3 Traverse C -C'
Traverse C -C originates in the Deer Creek drainage adjacent to the lower stock pond (P74) and
proceeds eastward, trending north and then south, over mined E -seam Longwall Panels E2, E3,
E4, E5, and E6 (see Map 1) as well as portions of unmined E -seam Longwall Panel E7. E -seam
overburden depths along this traverse vary from 450 feet in the Deer Creek drainage to
approximately 900 feet over mined E -seam Longwall Panels E4 and E5.
Photographs from east- and west -facing overview locations were obtained from designated
locations along this traverse as in previous visits. Photographic comparisons to previous images
found no substantive differences.
Numerous MVB pads have been historically accessible from this traverse including E3-6, E3-12,
E3-17.5, E3-21, E3-25, E4-15, E4-16, E4-17, and E4-18 over mined E -seam Longwall Panels E3
and E4, as well as E5-17 and E5-18 over mined Longwall Panel E5. Each of these pads has now
been reclaimed.
831-032.900 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 10
August 2018
