You will be receiving a formal approval letter from our Denver office
soon. Please read this letter carefully, as it contains several important items you must be made aware
of.
The details of the mining and reclamation plans under this 112c conversion have not changed
significantly from the original ones for the 110 permit. The pit will still be mined about 10 feet deep,
no groundwater will be exposed, and crushing-and asphalt batching will be allowed. Pit slopes are to
be reduced to 10:1. Topsoil will be salvaged so it can be replaced during reclamation, the same
revegetation plan will be used that was approved when the pit was CDOT's, and the reclamation costs
now include weed control.
Your plan was to increase your disturbance by three acres at'a time, and to reclaim three acres as the
pit expands, so as to keep the disturbance limited. The reclamation costs account for reclamation to be
performed on up to 10 acres, since that is approximately the present amount of disturbance and it is
expected to remain constant. Please ensure that you limit the disturbed area(and include land used for
stockpiling or equipment storage)to 10 acres. If more land is needed for your operation, you may
revise the permit to increase the disturbed area. You may have to post markers or fences to prevent
contract operators orisite from redisturbing reclaimed areas.
There are knapweed infestations onsite, and though there is-presently not an adequate weed control
plan, the bond amount must include costs for their treatment. I have included that in the new bond
estimate, but you must now revise your permit to include a.weed control plan. (The cost for a 112c
technical revision is 216.) Please contact your local weed control office for assistance in preparing a
plan. I will be inspecting the pit in the coming months to help wrap up these changes, and would like
to review a complete weed control plan with you.
This letter is also your notice that the required bond amount has been increased. Enclosed is an
updated reclamation cost estimate packet that includes the tasks mentioned above; as well as the
mobilization costs and indirect costs for contractor overhead and profit. Please review this and;contact
Office of Office of
1nor6—MinPc
