locations of the property extents and boring locations. The bedrock depths in the
proposed mine areas ranged from approximately 24 feet to 55 feet below the ground
surface. Earth Engineering Consultants(EEC) performed an analysis in May of 2017 as
part of a feasibility study and this information was reviewed and is consistent with the
investigation performed in late winter of 2018.
(M) Nature of the stratum immediately beneath the material to be mined in sedimentary
deposits
The surficial soils at the project site are described as Broadway Alluvium(Pleistocene),
described as a well sorted and well stratified sand and gravel deposit. The Broadway
Alluvium is overlying the Laramie Formation (Upper Cretaceous),described as a
claystone shale containing lenticular beds of sandstone and lignite, as illustrated on the
Geologic Map of the Boulder-Fort Collins-Greeley Area, Colorado by Roger B. Colton,
1978. Gradation testing conducted selected soil samples obtained from our borings
indicate a generally finer grain size than as described on the geologic map by Colton.
The gradation results more closely match the soil description by Soister, 1965, as Late
Pleistocene(Wisconsin)age Alluvial Sand and Silt as described on the Geologic Map of
the Platteville Quadrangle, Weld County, Colorado by Paul E.Soister, 1965. The
referenced geologic maps indicate the alluvium deposits are generally reported to be on
the order of twenty-five to thirty-five feet deep within the area of the projectsite. The
office of the State Engineer Division of Water Resources indicates this site is situated
above the Laramie-Fox Hills Aquifer. No seismic faults are reported within approximately
twenty five miles of the site. The Colorado Geological Survey(CGS) reports potentially
active faults at least 25 miles west-southwest of the project site. The Cretaceous Age
Laramie Formation is known to have normal faulting which offsets the layered
stratigraphy, however, these faults likely occurred during or shortly after deposition and
are generally not capable of producing a significant magnitude earthquake. (source EEC
Report May 26,2017)
(g) Identify the primary and secondary commodities to be mined/extracted and describe the
intended use.
The primary commodities are sand, gravel and fill; intended for construction materials.
(h) Name and describe the intended use of all expected incidental products to be
mined/extracted by the proposed operation.
There are no expected incidental products to be mined.
(i) Specify if explosives will be used in conjunction with the mining(or reclamation)
No explosive material will be used on-site.
Hunt Water LLC—Gravel Mine—MLRB 112 Permit Application
Exhibit D-3
