MINING PLAN EXHIBIT D(CONT) <br /> Russian Olive trees have invaded the area . The Russian Olive <br /> trees will be removed during mining and any other trees outside <br /> the area to be disturbed will remain. Access to the site is via <br /> an existing driveway in the southwest corner of the property. <br /> The driveway will remain when mining ends as access to the <br /> industrial area . The landowners may also grade a road across the <br /> pre-law area to provide access from County Road 22W. A road will <br /> remain around the north side when mining ends in this area . <br /> GEOLOGIC SETTING <br /> The affected lands are located in the Arkansas Valley approxi- <br /> mately 2100 feet south of the river in a late Quaternary age, <br /> valley fill alluvial deposit . The sand and gravel encountered in <br /> the valley fill alluvium are a result of water erosion and <br /> redeposition of rock materials from the front range of the Rocky <br /> Mountains . The deposition of this material occurred during a <br /> time when the river was much larger than it is now. <br /> This type of material is typically found along the Arkansas River <br /> in Otero County to the Colorado state line . Along this section <br /> of the river, the deposit has an 80% sand, 20% rock ratio and <br /> averages 22 feet deep . <br /> SOILS AND O VERB URDEN <br /> See the soils and vegetation information in EXHIBITIM for detailed <br /> information regarding the soils on this site . The soil informa- <br /> tion is not site specific, it describes in general terms the <br /> nature of the soils found at this site prior to mining and was <br /> obtained from the USDA soil survey for Otero County. <br /> Approximately 12 . 68 acres of this site is covered by water and <br /> 17 . 36 acres is the old Plant Site area where there is no soil . <br /> The remaining 9 . 36 ac ± is the old overburden stockpile area <br /> along the north side of the lake . Overlying the gravel deposit on <br /> the stockpile area are piles of overburden and growth medium that <br /> were placed there before the original Reclamation Permit was <br /> issued in 1977 . Underlaying the stockpile area is a layer of <br /> overburden that varies from 1 to 4 feet and the sand and gravel , <br /> a portion of which will be mined. The topsoil\growth medium, <br /> when encountered in the stockpiles, will be saved for use then <br /> reclamation begins around the north end of the lake . <br /> 7 (revised 8/10/2018) <br />
