Coal removal at the NHN Mine began in 2013 and is expected to continue through 2017. The
coal quantities required from the NHN Mine under Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation's
contract to supply Tri -State's Nucla Station are estimated to be about 250,000 tons to 460,000
tons per year. For the purpose of this permit application, the maximum rate of 460,000 tons per
year was assumed. Whenever possible, overburden stripping and coal loading will be sequenced
to maintain an in -pit inventory of approximately one month's coal requirements. Additionally,
coal loading will be sequenced to allow blending to enable delivery of the required quality coal
to the power plant.
Table 2.05.2-1
Major Mining Equipment
Primary Excavation Equipment
Equipment Type
Quantity
Capacity
Hydraulic Shovel
1
20 cubic yards
End Dump Truck
4
100 tons
Crawler Tractor
2
400 horsepower
Crawler Tractor
1
770 horsepower
Major Support Equipment
Equipment Type
Quantity
Capacity
Overburden Drill
1
6-3/4" diameter
Wheel Loader
1
7 cubic yards
Wheel Loader
1
17 cubic yards
Motor Grader
1
200 horsepower
Water Truck
1
9,000 gallons
Table 2.05.2-2
Mining Operation Statistics
Year
Disturbed
Acres
Coal Tons
OB/Parting
Cubic Yards
Stripping Ratio
2013-2017
195.8
1,323,044
11,748,520
8.88:1
TOTAL
195.8
1,323,044
11,748,520
8.88:1
Section 2.05.2 Page 2 March 2018 (TR -16)
