Alluvial well GW -3 was incorporated into the monitoring program to
report and analyze any hydrologic impacts to the alluvium of Munger Creek from mining related
activity associated with MCM. Well GW -3 was initially required to be monitored quarterly for
lab samples and field parameters required by the Rules. In 2011, during temporary cessation of
the mine site, the monitoring program was reduced to monitoring in the second and fourth
quarters every year. The same lab parameters and field parameters were required to be sampled.
The 2017 Annual Hydrology Report was the only report in the last five years to use the reduced
monitoring frequency for temporary cessation. The last five Annual Hydrology Reports were
analyzed for the monitoring well GW -3. During the years 2013 through 2016, all sixteen
quarters reported that the well was dry or was damp (not enough water to sample). In 2017, with
the reduced monitoring frequency, both the second and fourth quarters reported the well was dry.
Based on the Division's analysis of the past 5 AHRs, the monitoring well GW -3 is eligible to be
released from the MCM hydrologic monitoring program and reclaimed.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mfning.state.co.us
John W.
