PERMIT #: M-1980-136
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: July 11, 2018
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as part of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety's (Division) normal
monitoring program. Mr. Jason Burkey, representing the Operator, were present during this inspection.
Photographs are included with this report in order to illustrate some of the conditions observed.
The Whitewater Chambers Pit is located approximately 1/4 mile west of Eagle and accessed from HWY 6. The
site is a 112c operation that includes a total of 135 permitted acres with 90 acres current disturbed acres. The
Division currently holds a financial warranty amount of $ 694,193 for this site.
The Division will review the reclamation costs in order to ensure the financial warranty reflects the actual
current cost of fulfilling the requirements of the Reclamation Plan. The Operator will be notified under
separate cover if the Division determines that the current financial warranty amount is insufficient.
The mine identification sign was not observed at the entrance to the site. This is considered a problem and is
noted at the beginning of this report.
The boundaries of the affected area were clearly marked with a combination of fencing or boundary markers.
Fuel is being stored adequately with secondary containment. Thistle was present on site and the Division
encourages spraying with a proper herbicide treatment to prevent future infestation.
The Division is requesting for Annual Reporting in 2018 to include a more detailed map. The map the Division
has on file is hard to read and is not clear.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone number (970) 242-5025.
