PERMIT #: M-1995-097
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: SJM
INSPECTION DATE: July 17, 2018
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted as a routine monitoring inspection. Chris Pruesch, representing the Operator,
was present during this inspection. Photographs are included with this report in order to illustrate some of
the conditions observed.
The Smuggler Mine is located on the northeast flank of the town of Aspen and accessed from Smuggler
Mountain Road. The site is a 110(2) operation that includes a total of 9.9 permitted acres. The Division
currently holds a financial warranty amount of $89,950.00 for this site.
Mr. Pruesch stated that the Operator may want to keep the out buildings intact. Currently the approved
reclamation plan states that the buildings will be demolished. If the Operator would like to keep the buildings
on site, a Technical Revision will need to be submitted. It is also recommended that the Operator seeks
approval from the Town of Aspen to keep the buildings in place.
The site overall looks good. Fuel is stored with proper secondary containment. No erosional issues were
observed.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Stephanie Mitchell at the Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado
81501, phone number (970) 242-5025.
