The purpose of these ditches will be to reroute surface runoff from undisturbed areas away
from the toe of the fill embankment associated with Haul Road A, which will ensure long term
stability. If approved, construction would most likely begin in August, 2018, and it would take
approximately 2 days to construct the ditches. Haul Road A is an existing road that runs from the
mine facility area down to the Gossard Loadout. All proposed disturbance activities will occur within
areas that have been previously disturbed, and the proposed disturbance features will occupy areas
within the approved disturbance footprint for the Colowyo coal mine.
CPW has worked collaboratively with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement
(OSMRE) and Colowyo mine to develop site-specific mitigation that will help reduce, minimize or
avoid impacts to wildlife and wildlife habitat associated with this project. These mitigation practices
have been documented via other correspondence documents with OSMRE, and CPW believes that
the proposed activities fall within the scope of anticipated impacts that were considered in these
documents.
CPW appreciates the opportunity to provide comments for Technical Revision No. 122 For
additional information, please contact Brett Smithers, Land Use Specialist at 970-878-6069.
Sincerely,
Bill deVergie, Area Wildlife Manager
Cc: Evan Jones, District Wildlife Manager, Craig South
Brett Smithers, Land Use Specialist.
