3.6.2.3 Alternative Water Supply
• Water supply was provided by two wells at the loadout site. One
supplied water to the water storage reservoir and a smaller well
was used for potable water supply.
The reservoir provided water to the dust suppression and coal
washdown systems. The reservoir was composed of two cells, a
sediment control unit and a clean water storage unit. The sediment
control unit was designed to contain disturbed area runoff and
washdown water for a period of time sufficient to settle out
suspended solids from these waters. The clean decant from this
well flowed through a weir to the storage unit where the water was
recycled back to the dust suppression and washdown systems.
Mean annual water use at the loadout was estimated at 7.46 acre-
feet. The reservoir water level was maintained at 6.75 acre-feet
by float-controlled pumps. This provided the reserve capacity
required by the water augmentation plan. Total capacity of the
reservoir was 11.1 acre-feet. This excess capacity ensured total
retention of back-to-back, 100-year storm events.
Water was obtained under rights purchased from the Anschutz
Corporation. Details of the augmentation are presented in Section
4.6.2.3.6 and a copy of the plan is included in 3-T.
• The water use at the loadout is no longer viable and is a non-use
status.
• 3-95 Rev. 6-10-93
