In order to gain an understanding of the extent of the existing mined area and reclamation
disturbances, it is helpful to know the acres disturbed by different aspects of the operation. Each
aspect is listed in the following table with associated disturbed area. The table illustrates the
current conditions, which represents the maximum mining disturbance. Since the final land use
includes water storage, a slurry wall or other form of liner needs to be constructed. For disturbed
area estimates, it is assumed that the existing excavation depth (bottom of lake to top of adjacent
land surface) is 25 feet. Although backfilling for reclamation has been primarily completed,
construction of the slurry wall has not begun.
Disturbed
Aspect Mining Operation Area
(acres)
A Regrading and rough grading pond side slopes for added 24.3
stability at 3H:1 V— 13,400 feet x 79 feet
B Slurry Wall construction; 13,300 feet x 75 feet 22.9
C Flood Protection Measures; 900' x 79' (same area as Aspect A) NA
D Miscellaneous disturbed areas 5.0
Total Disturbed Area 52.2
Diversions and Impoundments
Roads, irrigation ditches, trails, and a railroad grade will effectively minimize stormwater
surface run-on to the site, so run-on diversion structures are not anticipated. To manage
stormwater run-off, stormwater that falls directly on the affected area will be contained in the
existing pit lakes. The pit lakes will effectively contain stormwater flows and prevent surface
runoff from the site.
Material Processing and Associated Facilities
Excavated material will primarily be used on-site for reclamation. The material will either be
used directly or, if necessary, temporarily stockpiled for later use, crushing, or screening prior to
use. A scale house/employee/storage trail will be established near the site entrance in case
material needs to be hauled off-site. If necessary, a fueling/lubricating station and/or generators
may also be located near the scale houses.
Commodities to be Mined and Intended Use
Construction materials, primarily sand and gravel, are the commodities to be mined from the
proposed permit area.
Use of Explosives
Since the material is unconsolidated alluvium, no explosives or blasting is required.
Lamb Lakes
DBMS/12 Permit Application Page 7
