Typical Seedbed Preparation Techniques:
Typical seedbed preparation techniques include the following steps, as needed:
• Disc the bare slopes prior to the replacement of topsoil to create a non-slippage surface
to receive the topsoil. The less than SH.•I V slopes should not need to be treated due to
the lower grade.
• Disc, chisel or plow the topsoil to uncompact the soil which typically occurs during
topsoil replacement. Ideally, the entire replaced soil profile should be treated. Using a
chisel or large diameter disc should be able to reach through the entire replaced soil
profile.
• If the area is to be broadcast seeded, nothing else needs done but to seed.
• If the site is to be drill seeded(what we propose for the site except as noted below), the
field should be harrowed to break-up the clods to produce a smooth and somewhat
settled seedbed. The correct amount of harrowing should leave a slight shoe heal
impression when the surface is walked on.
• The area can then be seeded on the contour provided there are no hazards to the seeding
equipment and operator. If there are operational hazards, the area should be broadcast
seeded.
We will utilize the appropriate combination of the above techniques in order to prepare a proper
seedbed for and/or drilling or broadcast seeding.
Page 43b
