(f) — (h) As stated above, MCC will rotary drill up to two exploration holes to about
1,000' to 1,300' in depth within previously disturbed areas of existing roads and harvested
aspen on this private land. The pads will be about 100'x 200' and will be along the roads in
existing clearings, if possible. No aquifers have been encountered in the West Elk Mine and
none are anticipated to be encountered with this exploration project.
Following exploration, the holes will be sealed and plugged, using Type II Neat cement,
Super Plug, and 3/8" plug chips. The sites will be reclaimed as soon as practical
following exploration by recontouring the site to AOC, redistributing topsoil, seeding with
native plant seeds, as approved in MCC's permit for similar, adjacent areas, and then
straw mulching the area.
Because the site(s) are on previously disturbed areas from past aspen harvests, no
cultural resources or threatened or endangered species surveys were completed. MCC
has contacted CPW to provide verification that this exploration project will not
jeopardize the continued existence of an endangered or threatened species. That
documentation will be provided to the Division once it is received.
4
