It was a scary morning
for many people not knowing what was going on.,tourists and residents alike were frantic.911 operators were
overwhelmed with calls and streets were shut down on the East side of town due to potentially hazardous
plume of dust,at that time it was unknown what this exactly was.The first responder's air monitors/gas
detectors were going off and a potential evacuation was underway.
Incident County
Teller County
Is this an ongoing issue(s)?
f•Yes r No
Nature of Complaint
Select all that apply
r Illegal Mining rJ Dust
r Ground Water/ Water Well Impact r Acid or Toxic Materials/Spills
r Surface Water Impact / Stormwater Management r Property Damage
rJ Mine Plan Compliance r Waste Management / Dumping
r Signs and Markers r Overburden / Development Waste
r Financial Warranty r Backfilling and Grading
r Processing Waste/Tailings r Processing Facilities
r Fish / Wildlife r Erosion/ Sedimentation
r Off-Site Damage r Roads
r Explosives/ Blasting r Topsoil
r Revegetation r Weeds
r Reclamation Plan Compliance r Other
Detailed description of the issue(s)
Please provide as much detail as possible. It is important to narrow down the issue(s).
At 7:30 A.M.on July 3,2018, CC&V set off a blast that created a significant plume of rock dust and spent
ANFO leaving their mining boundaries and blanketing the town of Cripple Creek and Goldfield. This caused
road closures and respiratory distress to many residents and tourists. This isn't the first time CC&V has
blatantly caused air born health hazards in the surrounding local communities. The town of Victor was totally
blanketed with rock dust and spent chemicals from the blast at least once. The town of Goldfield has been
blanketed at least 3 times and now Cripple Creek. Besides the chemical residue and gases from these
incidents impacting our communities, silicosis is becoming a very big concern within the community from the
regular disregard for human health and safety.
