Hollard (roger Requinoxland.com)
Re: Subsurface Exploration Report
Evaluation of Existing Dam and Signal Reservoir Modifications/Improvements
South of 168"' and East of Quebec Street
Brighton, Weld County, Colorado
EEC Project No. 1122096
Mr. Hollard:
Enclosed, herewith, are the results of the subsurface explorations completed by Earth
Engineering Consultants LLC (EEC) personnel for the referenced project. The results presented
herein are from two (2) separate field explorations; the first one conducted in November of 2012
which consisting of drilling and sampling ten (10) test borings positioned within the interior
portion of the existing Signal Reservoir, and the second exploration, conducted in June of 2013'
which consisted of drilling and sampling five (5) test borings within the existing Signal
Reservoir dam alignment and two (2) additional borings at the toe of the earthen dam
embankment slope alignment as presented herein. We have also incorporated the
findings/comments from various design/consultation meetings with the project team and the
Colorado Division of Water Resources personnel over the last year regarding the proposed
improvements.
As we understand, this project will consist of deepening the existing Signal Reservoir and
modifying/enhancing the existing dam alignment along the northern perimeter of reservoir
situated south of 168t" and east of Quebec Street. The primary purpose for the Signal Reservoir
improvements is to allow for an increase in storage capacity. To evaluate and analyze the
feasibility for the proposed expansion/improvements of the existing Signal Reservoir, EEC
personnel were requested to perform two (2) subsurface explorations which consisting of drilling
and sampling the underlying subsurface conditions beneath the bottom of the existing reservoir,
with a total of ten (10) soil borings in November of 2012, and a supplemental exploration
conducted in June of 2013, which consisted of seven (7) additional borings completed within the
existing dam alignment as shown herein. The November 2012 borings were positioned
4396 GREENFIELD DRIVE
WINDSOR, COLORADO 80550
(970) 545-3908 FAX (970) 663-0282
www.earth-engineering.com
