Martin Julie Mikulas
Marietta Regional Land Manager
June 14,2018
Mr. Peter Hays
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Reclamation Responsibility Release, M-2011-001, Iverson Pit
Dear Mr. Hays:
On behalf of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., please accept this letter as our request for release of
reclamation responsibilities for the Iverson Mine. We had done a preliminary seeding in the fall, which
was starting to sprout when we re-seeded the property again just this last April. The seed mix we used is
attached. We used a dry land pasture blend a:approximately 800lbs of seed for cover. We also broadcast
and hand seeded the transitional zones along the water's edge. The seed on site was starting to take,
however with the wet conditions the weeds were growing taller than the grass shoots.
The property owner decided he didn't want to look at the weeds and went out and tilled back up
approximately half of the site with a disc or a harrow without first discussing it with us. In doing so,it has
turned up larger rocks from below surface anc mixed the overburden and topsoil layers. This process has
also turned the seed over limiting its viability, we typically don't do weed control during the first season
to allow the grass time to establish. This 'ssue could have been managed with weed control and
management once the seed had establish bu: now that he has decided to farm the ground, we cannot
continue to re-seed every time he sees weeds. Please see the attached photos.
Between the additional finish work and the two seeding applications the approximate cost breakdown is
as follows.
Claystone Rock Racking for removal of rocks greater 1 1/2"diameter: $11,000.00
Claystone Motor Grading to +/-0.1: $15,000.00
Upland seed $18,612.40
Transitional seed $9,306.20
Equipment.Tractor/drill/broadcaster $12,000.00(1)
Operator/labor $8,000.00(2)
Total $47,918.60
(1)equipment cost-$150.00 per hour x 40 hours x 2 applications
(2)operator/labor-$50.00 per hour x 2 employees x 40 hours x 2 applications
Rocky Mountain Division—Northern Office
1800 N Taft Hill Road, Fort Collins,CO 80534
julie.mikulas@martinmarietta.com
www.martinmarietta.com
