©W)5 or7
June 23, 2018 REC lv'eo
To Department of Reclamation, Mining and Safety and other State/Local agencies: JUN Z 9 Z018
Subject: Permit#M2018016, Douglas Mountain Mine Project IAWpF
,q ,q 1ON
Issues regarding the proposed development of the Douglas Mountain Mining Operation in Clear Creek
County which would be located at or near Section 28,Township 3S, Range74W, 6th Principle Meridian in
Clear Creek County: namely Empire Junction and westward to the town of Empire.
Water Issues:
• The Clear Creek Watershed is one of the most heavily utilized water resources in
the Colorado Front Range. Growing demand on this watershed of which West Clear
Creek (HUC-0103)is part, will continue to stress the supply and quality.
• Metal and aureeate mining is one of the seven primary sources that have the po-
tential to impact water quality per The Upper Clear Creek Watershed Plan 2014
Updates. This plan proposes to develop mitigation projects to repair and improve this
valuable resource.
• To propose a new aggregate mine that was presented as a 150 acre, 200-foot
deep gravel pit operation (or even the smaller initially proposed pit) over 25 years is
counter to protecting our water resources.
-This proposed operation will damage/deplete the local water systems of Bard Creek,
West Clear Creek and the ground water.
-The water table on the plateau is also very shallow thereby contaminating the ground
water and natural springs.
-The amount of water needed to run this type of operation and the diversion of the nat-
ural flow by a pit are alarming as is the impact to property owners downstream with
the disturbance of water flowing east through the West Clear Creek Watershed basin.
-Allocating water to the Douglas Mountain Ranch Mine, in an already over taxed water-
shed, is inappropriate and wasteful.
The Douglas Mountain Mine development would destroy the only plateau in Clear Creek Coun-
ty! Our State and County is in need of a positive, eco-friendly, tourism friendly and wildlife
friendly use for this land; that is our future economy. Please, I am asking you to deny the es-
tablishment of the Douglas Mountain Mine.
Best Regards,
Printed name: Sally Rush
Address: 240 West Park Ave. PO Box 381, Empire, CO 80438
Phone Number: 732-552-6744
Email: sally.kate.rush@gmail.com
