Reclamation Summary
Sunnyside Basin Permit Area — M-77-378
The Sunnyside Basin permit area, consisting of 66.50 acres, was reclaimed according to the
approved reclamation plan in 1991.1992.
Reclamation included;
• filling the Lake Emma subsidence feature.
• capping the subsidence feature with low permeable lake sediments stockpiled on-site.
• grading around the filled subsidence feature to minimize infiltration, grading of borrow
areas and erosion control.
• seeding the disturbed area with the approved seed mix, applying fertilizer, and mulch.
Seeding and fertilizer application was completed with a hydro -seeder and mulch was
applied with a hay -thrower.
This reclamation was completed in 1992 and has been in monitoring and maintenance status
since completion of reclamation plan implementation.
Snow and ice had accumulated in the void of the Lake Emma subsidence feature prior to filling.
As this snow and ice melted after fill placement, some additional subsidence occurred. This
subsidence was repaired annually for over ten years using the low permeable lake sediments to
re-create the graded surface. In addition the high altitude environment with a normal dry early
summer month (usually June) has been hard on the emerging vegetation, although it has
established itself at the slow pace normal for the altitude similar to the tracts previously released.
As noted in the 2017 DRMS permit inspection, "vegetation appears to be adequate in both
density and diversity, and shows signs of multiple year's biomass indicating that the populations
are self-sufficient. No erosional issues or noxious weeds were observed in this area." Also, the
2014 DRMS permit inspection encouraged SGC to submit a notice of completion of reclamation
and request for acreage reduction to remove this area from the permit.
The vegetation has been improving annually and no maintenance work has occurred for at least
ten years. The area is stable and meets the post -mining land use and minimum vegetation criteria
required for release.
